COURSE DESCRIPTION

Τhe following Module “The use of Web 2.0 technology to enhance learning in a  multicultural classroom ” aims to enrich teacher’s ICT knowledge and support the development of their ICT competences by offering an attractive set of tools and activities with instructional guidelines on how to use them in practice in order to facilitate inclusion and success of (newly arrived) migrant and refugee students.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

After the completion of the Module teachers will be able to:

  • Design and develop high-quality resources for migrant and refugee students
  • Match specific curriculum standards to particular software packages and computer applications
  • Transform traditional curricula with the incorporation of a range of relevant Web 2.0 technology tools
  • Use a number of Web 2.0 technology tools to support migrant and refugee children social inclusion
  • Use a number of Web 2.0 technology tools to support migrant and refugee children linguistic skills

    Teachers often use the Internet to find educational material for their teaching practice. This section presents useful information about the tools that will allow teachers to gain access to Open Educational Resources and use them in their teaching in a safe and fair way.

  • Unit 3 - Communication and Collaboration Tools 0/1

    The use of communication and collaboration tools is very important during the educational process. Such tools can be used to promote teamwork, dialogue and personal expression. In this Unit, teachers will learn ways of online communication and in parallel with experiment with tools for sharing instructional content. These tools can be used in the classroom to facilitate the learning process for migrant pupils, especially if they are new to the school environment.

  • Unit 4 - Production of learning materials "Digital Storytelling" 0/1

    Digital storytelling is a practice which is often used in education to address issues related to migration (e.g. migrant’s identities, xenophobia, racism). This Unit will introduce teachers to tools related to the use of digital storytelling in the classroom. They will have the chance to learn how storytelling can be used to enhance learning while at the same time they will experience in practice the creation of a digital story.

  • Unit 5 - Production of multimedia for learning 0/1

    The production of multimedia resources for teaching and learning is a great way to encourage and facilitate migrant pupils’ participation in the learning process. Many researches have also found that it is beneficial to language learning. During this Unit teachers will learn how to create interactive material by using different online tools that support multimedia production in order to enhance the learning process.
